Distraction determined cause of last year's bus accident

by Administrator 22. June 2010 08:05

The National Transportation Safety Board has determined inattention as the cause of the tragic bus accident in Arizona last year at meeting today in Washington D.C..  The board stated that they believe the driver of the bus was attempting to fix a problem with the door before the accident happened.

The accident occurred on January 30th, 2009 when a charter bus with a group of Chinese tourists was returning to Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon and crashed on U.S. Highway 93 near the Hoover Dam.  The distracted driver veered and overcorrected, leading him into a median and causing the bus to flip.  Many occupants were ejected from the bus, seven people were killed, and ten were injured in the accident.

The NTSB also offered safety tips for medium-sized busses, such as occupant restraints and stronger windows to prevent people from being ejected in accidents.
