Two Sought Following Car Crash

Police are searching for two people who fled the scene of acar accident in Tempe on Monday.

An officer for the Arizona Department of Public Safetyattempted to pull over a red Dodge Stratus for failing to yield while headingwestbound on Interstate 10 shortly before 1:50 p.m. on Monday. According to astatement issued by Harold Sanders, a spokesman for the Arizona Department ofPublic Safety, the officer stopped pursuing the Dodge due to heavy traffic, andlost sight of it near Ray Road.

The driver exited on Warner Road and collided with anothervehicle in the intersection, Sanders said.

Tempe Police responded to a call about the crash andwitnesses reported that the two occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot.

DPS continues to investigate the accident.

University of Arizona Police Officer Injured in Car Accident

 A University ofArizona motorcycle police officer is in the hospital, following a south sidecar accident.

According to police, the accident occurred shortly before5:00 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of 36th street and Kino.Investigators say a vehicle was turning at the intersection and struck theofficer on his motorcycle.

The university police officer sustained minor injuries inthe accident, and is recovering at a local hospital.

There is no word on whether or not the driver of the carwill be ticketed.

Family of 5 Injured in Car Crash

A family of five is in the hospital following asingle-vehicle crash on Interstate 10.

The family was in a car traveling westbound on Estrellaparkway when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the median.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, theaccident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, closing the left lane forclose to 45 minutes.

The family was transported to St. Joseph’s Hopital andMedical Center in Phoenix. Two 8 year-olds were in the vehicle at the time ofthe accident, their condition is not known.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety continues toinvestigate the cause of the accident.

2 Off-Duty Police Officers Injured on I-10

Two off-duty Phoenix Police officers were injured when amattress flew off a pickup truck on Interstate 10 and struck a motorcycle.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Gravessaid the police officers, a male driver and female passenger, were part of agroup of 15 to 20 off-duty officers riding their personal motorcycles. Themattress flew from the truck and struck the two officers shortly before 2 p.m.on Friday.

Both were transported by helicopter to University MedicalCenter in Tucson, where they are recovering from non life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

Truck Rolls While Eluding Border Patrol, 2 Dead, 3 Injured

Two men were killed and three others injured when a truckrolled over while trying to elude U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Lt. Tamatha Villar, spokeswoman for the Pinal CountySheriffs Office, said that Border Patrol agents attempted to stop the pick-uptruck on Arizona 87 north of Eloy on Tuesday morning. Authorities say they werenot chasing the vehicle when it rolled over on a dirt road.

Two men were pronounced dead at the time of the crash. Thethree survivors were transported by helicopter to a Phoenix hospital. Two ofthe men remain on life support.

Villar says four of the five people involved are suspectedillegal immigrants.

Woman Sentenced in Fatal I-10 DUI Crash

A Michigan woman has been sentenced to six years in prisonin connection with an alcohol related car crash that killed a Tucson man lastyear.

22 year-old Elizabeth Tuccini was also ordered to 10 yearsprobation on Friday. Tuccini was convicted last month of negligent homicide,aggravated driving under the influence and criminal damage.

Tuccini moved to Tucson from Allen Park, Michigan, lastyear. Pima County prosecutors say Tuccini was speeding on Interstate 10 onDecember 20, 2008 when the pick up truck she was driving collided head-on witha vehicle driven by 54 year-old Marco Salazar.

Tuccini’s blood alcohol content at the time was 0.187percent, more than double the legal limit in Arizona of 0.08 percent.

She did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of thecrash.

Woman Killed in Loop 101 Car Accident

 A woman waskilled Friday when she struck a concrete barrier on a Loop 101 off-ramp.

Capt. Alex Rangel, a spokesman for the Phoenix FireDepartment, said the 50 year-old woman was driving off the 101 when she strucka concrete support barrier under Interstate 17 shortly before 10 a.m.Investigators also believe the woman was traveling at an excessive speed.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman, Bart Graves,said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and the woman was the onlyperson inside the black Lexus SUV she was driving.
