The deaths of two people at an Arizona sweat lodge are beinginvestigated as homicides. The deaths were originally thought to be anaccident.

Police say they are looking into whether the combination of severalelements led to the deaths including improper medical care, dangerousconditions of the sweat lodge, and criminal negligence on the part of theowners.

New Study Emphasizes Need for Booster Seats

by Administrator 19. October 2009 03:50

A new study released in Pediatrics Magazine offers new evidence thatchildren ages 4 to 8 who are restrained in a booster seat are 45 percent lesslikely to be injured in a crash compared with children using a seat belt alone.

Researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center forInjury Research and Provention studied more than 7,000 children ages 4-8 thathad been involved in real-world crashes.

Lead researcher Kristy Arbogast explained the purpose of the study. “We wanted to take a fresh look at booster seats' effectiveness toreduce injury among this age group, because when we first evaluated theprotective benefits of booster seats in 2002, most children using them were 4and 5 years old… Since then, usage rates among older kids ages 6 to 8 havetripled, and we wanted to be sure these older kids were as well-protected bybooster seats as the younger ones, now that we had more data. We found thatinjury reduction offered by booster seats remains significant even when agreater proportion of older children are included in the study.”

Arizona is one of a handful of statesthat does not have a mandatory booster seat law.
