Heavy Winds Lead to Accidents

by Administrator 23. March 2009 07:15

On Sunday, heavy winds blew across the state increasing the likely hood of accidents and injuries.  North of Prescott , for example,  it was reported that almost zero visibility occurred in some areas.

The Department of Public Safety issued warnings because of the winds and sand being blown across the state.  This led to extremely poor driving conditions and drivers were encouraged to not drive or be very careful.

Arizona Highway 89 had to be closed as a result of multiple vehicle accidents.   None of the accidents have been yet reported as serious or critical.

Arizona Jury Awards $11 Million Verdict

by Administrator 23. March 2009 07:05

An Arizona Jury has awarded an $11 million verdict against Liberty Manor Residency, a 24 hour assisted care and living facility.

The suit comes from an incident where a patient died as a result of ingesting plastics and other non-edible objects.  The man had suffered serious brain damage after a car accident in 1996.  His wife had cared for him for a long time, but was forced to check him into the facility to allow her to work a job and let him have treatment and care 24 hours a day.

It was found that the care administered was not adequate, and even falsified in some cases.  The suit states that more could have and should have been done to protect the patient.

Man Shot Six Times by Police Officer

by Administrator 18. March 2009 04:32

A man was shot six times in his own home by a Phoenix police officer.

The events that transpired started with gun shots through the living room window followed by a home intruder.  The home intruder was armed and went to the homeowners son's room.  The owner of the house grabbed his gun  and followed the intruder.  The homeowner was able to get the intruder held at gun point as his wife called the police.

When the police arrived,  they burst in the house and saw the home owner with a gun.  Yelling only "Police", the officer opened fire on the homeowner hitting him six times.  The officer also reportedly hit the man twice while he was on the ground.

The officer acknowledged that he failed to give the proper commands and made a mistake.

Death of Toddler Ruled an Accident

by Administrator 13. March 2009 07:01

Arizona officials have finished their investigation and have concluded that the Arizona toddler that was hit by the father with vehicle was an accident. This is not surprising to many,  however this is the formal conclusion to the investigation.

The accident occurred when the father was leaving his drive way when he struck his two year-old boy with his vehicle.  The investigation stated that the height of the vehicle and the position of the child made it impossible for the father to see the child.

Arizona I-10 One of the Deadliest Highways in America

by Administrator 13. March 2009 06:46

In Arizona,  the I-10 is one of the deadliest highways in America.  In the past five years,  over 170 people have lost their lives as a result of this stretch of road.

Recently there was another accident on this road,  which had brought up the question of why this road is so dangerous.

An official from the Arizona Department of Public Safety has stated that not just one factor is the cause.  It is the multiple factors working together that are creating the problems.  The road is highly congested and can not handle the load of traffic sufficiently.  Next,  the abuse of alcohol and drugs on the roads have been responsible for many accidents.  Also,  drivers have more distractions than ever with cell phones and on board electronic systems. The speeds of the highway are fast as well.

The state had said that it will be taking steps to improve the safety of I-10.

Two Dead in I-10 Accident

by Administrator 11. March 2009 07:39

Two men from Glendale were killed in an accident on I-10 after the vehicle they were riding in rolled over and caught fire.

The accident occurred early morning on Thursday, March 5th. The accident is currently under investigation by Arizona officials. The two men died after the truck they were riding in collided with a truck that was carrying a train.  This caused the truck they were driving in to flip over.  While the truck was flipped over,  the fuel tank began to leak.  This caused the truck to catch fire.

The two men that died from this accident likely died as a result of the impact and not the fire,  according to medical examiners.
