Stephen Portell

Stephen Portell practices in the areas of automotive and heavy equipment product liability litigation, drug/medical device litigation, insurance coverage litigation, class action litigation and business litigation. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Detroit in 1991 and earned his law degree from Wayne State University, where he won the American Jurisprudence Book Award for Legal Research and Writing and the Fred B. Schiffman Award for appellate brief writing.

Mr. Portell is a leader in Arizona’s business and legal communities. He served as president of the Pima County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, and in 2008 Mr. Portell won a “40 under 40” business leaders award from the Tucson Citizen. He has been named Outstanding Pro Bono attorney twice by Southern Arizona Legal Aid and earned a “Top 50 Pro Bono Attorney” award from the Arizona State Bar in 2007. Mr. Portell currently serves on the Arizona Supreme Court’s Judicial Performance Review Commission. He also serves as a Special Magistrate for the Tucson City Court, presiding over a wide range of criminal hearings and jury trials.

Mr. Portell is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of business litigation (Product Liability).
